I just joined this group, and I am excited to see what workout advice I can get.
My primary source of exercise has been swimming, and I do quite well at that. The problem is, I need to add variety to my regimen. What do people suggest? I do plan on adding some weight training.

Wed, March 19, 2008 - 3:27 PMHey Kevin, It sounds like you already know the problem - which means you are on the way to a solution!
The most common problem people have with their exercise routine, is that it becomes... well... routine. "Variety", as you mentioned, is key.
I had clients that came to me running 10 miles a day, but were not seeing results. Their bodies had gotten used to running. As soon as they started doing other activities, everything shifted.
Each person's needs are different, but if you create variety and include cardio, strength & flexibility, you will be on the right track.
Have an amazing day!

Thu, March 20, 2008 - 8:23 AMThank you. I am still wondering how I should add the variety. Do I do a few weeks of one routine/exercise, and then move on to something else? Would a rotation throughout the year work? -

Re: New Here
Thu, March 20, 2008 - 2:02 PMIt might be wise to invest in a personal trainer, or training consultant.
In the meantime... switch it up as much as possible. How often and in what way, definitely depends on the person.
My rule of thumb is to look at nature for my answers. Our bodies were designed for walking through forests, gathering food, walking/running on multiple terrains, swimming...etc. The more varied the exercises, and the more they mimic how life would be (if we weren't sitting in front of our computer right now), the better you will feel and look.
Feel free to contact me directly if you have any further questions.
Have a great day - and a great workout!
