Nasm certification

I am interested in Nasm certification and am told that boot camp training is required. I am a former competition athlete but was in a near fatal auto accident. 5 yrs of pain management, 10 knee surgeries, a cervical fusion and a few other pins and such later, I am in the best physical condition I've been in since prior to the accident. I strength and condition train, cycle and speed walk but distance running is not condusive to the meniscal transplant I have. What is entailed in the boot camp for certification? I would hope that my inability to distance run wouldn't eliminate my options for certification. I believe that I have the ability to accomplish anything at this point. :)

    Why do you prefer NASM?

Just curious... I have NASM, ISSA but I prefer NSCA or ACSM...

I'm so sorry that you had to go through all of that. What a major recovery you've made, from what you shared. That alone is really amazing; I think it shows a lot of personal drive, which coincidentally you need more than bootcamp for NASM.

One of the perks for working with 24 Hour fitness is that if you make xyz amount of hours trained per month or reach a certain sales goal, they award you with a NASM certing program. They pay for books, study materials (not including paper, pens, etc.) and the exam, which is a sit-down test. By investing in their trainers, 24 hour has more knowledgable trainers that give them an even better name.

There is no bootcamp that I'm aware of. I think you really are an inspiration and I really hope you get certed soon. It is a little steap, but so many fitness pros look at NASM and their eyes glaze over as they consider all the know-how you must have. It's like saying you went to USC or something. :)

I think you will find many many clients. Average folks want to hear a real story of success and will. To see how far you've come, I'd be convince to train with you! :)

    Hi Carrington:

More than any other top-flight certification, the NASM exam has existed in a state of constant evolution. I took the exam about 10 years ago, and over the ensuing decade have taken at least two follow-up courses to satisfy the continuing ed. requirements of my three certifications (I also have NSCA- CSCS and ACE-CPT certifications.) To date I have never heard of any boot camp or other physically demanding test requirement for NASM certification. Simply study for the exam and I'm sure you'll do fine. If you have any questions feel free to contact me through my website: www.AndyTroy.com.

    Good luck!

      Hey Andy,
thank you for your advice and insight. I am proud to say that I have completed my NASM and Ace cert's and I am currently working with a solid clientele in the fitness world. I have also managed to do some running again, although I prefer cycling. I am training for my first centurian ride as well. life is good and thank you for your insight into the NASM world. I believe my NASM certification has been my greatest key to success. ;)

I just ordered my testing materials for NASM. This is because the gym hiring me says that's the one they want me to have, and I'm not one to argue.

When I got NASM certified, i did not have to go through a "boot camp." Although this was a few years ago - perhaps that's a new addition.
One way to save money on the certification and get started with you training is to go through a gym. Many gyms will hire you and start training you immediately and pay for your certification.

It sounds like you will become an amazing trainer - which ever route you take. Being a competitive athlete and working through injuries will probably qualify you more than many of the certifications will.

I liked NASM a lot, but I don't have much experience in the other certifications.
